Sometimes, companies get it RIGHT. Kennedy & Coe did.
So I was plumb tickled when this crossed my inbox today -- a job description for a Marketing Director for a CPA called Kennedy & Coe. It's got to be the best of 2014. Can you believe this is an accounting firm? Job description is posted below:
Do you have a mind like a steel trap? Possess extreme attention to detail? Is corporate speak something you want to banish from business communications? Are you a positive person with a sense of humor? If so, this position may be a good fit for you. We seek a seasoned marketing professional who is focused and organized, excited about helping others put their best foot forward, and who wants to build marketing and communications processes from the ground up. Top candidates must enjoy writing and editing because it’s always going to be a big part of the job—content is king in professional services.
This is a new role in a new department. It is the opportunity to create everything—all marketing infrastructure. The challenge that goes with that is that "everything" has yet to be created. The ability to stay calm and thrive in a demanding environment while building this will be key to success in this role.
The position reports to the Growth Leader and leads a small team of marketing professionals who work in various locations. This pace is fast and the people are great—if there’s a consistent theme, it’s "change." Our firm already ranks in the Top 100 (in size) the US and is growing rapidly. We seek skilled marketing leadership to execute our exciting, defined strategy.
More great news... We're flexible on geography. Thanks to firm technology, all of this can be done from the office location of your choosing. We are also open to considering candidates who wish to telecommute, so long as occasional travel to and from our offices is convenient.
Desired Skills and Experience
In this position, you direct the firm’s marketing team, making frequent decisions to keep all projects rolling. Urgent projects currently include a complete rebrand and launch (at the end of the year), contact database overhaul, Intranet development, and establishing processes and systems for internal and external communications.
You lead the firm’s content marketing strategy, responsible for the quality of all print and Web-based content, and all public communications. Though in a leadership role, you roll up your sleeves and collaborate with your team and client-facing professionals, involved hands on with all communications and collaterals, as author or final editor for everything the department produces.
Another duty includes collaborating with members of the firm to develop their presentations, presentation skills, and business development acumen. You’ll oversee the firm’s advertising, sponsorships (plans and budgets are in place), trade events, PR, and social media. You’ll work closely with the growth leader to understand the firm’s marketing objectives, ensure budgets are adequate and effective, and bring new ideas to the table.
